Review: Bibimbap Skin Serum & Lip Treatment

The Serum

The Serum is described as “A synergistic blend of natural source skin brighteners and powerful age reversing Swiss Apple stem cells that addresses discoloration and cellular damage from daily environmental exposure.” Perfect for me, because I’m exposed to environmental damage almost every day from being outside and at the barn. I also freckle very easily, which though I love my freckles, I want to keep it to a sprinkling, not dark spots all over my face. Here’s what it’s supposed to do:

  • Brighten the skin and other dark spots
  • Deliver antioxidants, while boosting cell turnover and UV resistance
  • Delay chronological aging of the skin & protect against damaging free radicals – all without the use of Hydroquinone (Hydroquinone is a skin bleaching agent)

I’ve been using this serum almost daily (I like to give my skin a break from acids once in a while) for about 2 weeks, and I’ve been happy with the results so far. First let me give you a little profile on my skin.

Skin Type: Dry, sensitive.

Problems: Redness, dry patches, uneven texture, dullness.

The other products I use in conjunction: Lancome Creme Radiance Face Wash, Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Face Cream.

The formula: A thin, light yellowish liquid. Sinks into the skin quickly and doesn’t feel sticky. It’s fresh and clean smelling – a little citrusy maybe?

The packaging: It comes in an opaque, airless pump dispenser, which keeps the ingredients from oxidizing and losing their effectiveness. It feels high-quality and looks great on my countertop. The pump can be a little sticky sometimes and I will squirt out more than intended, but I’ve gotten used to it and figured out how much pressure is needed to get the amount I want.

This serum gave me glowy, smooth skin, and I feel like a lot of dark spots around my cheeks and forehead faded. I’ve also had some fine lines start to form on my forehead, and those have been significantly reduced as well. My sensitive skin hasn’t had any adverse reactions – no burning, stinging, extra redness, or dryness! The price ($110) is definitely steep, but considering that it’s ethically and small-batch manufactured, not tested on animals, thoughtfully packaged in an opaque airless dispenser, and all the hand-picked ingredients are effective and high-quality, it’s worth it. Other high-end serums run around the same price, without a lot of the perks that Bibimbap’s serum comes with. A little goes a long way, so only a small amount is needed every night. I’d definitely recommend this serum to anyone wanting to reduce signs of aging and dark spots – equestrian or not.

The Lip Treatment

I love lip products – I pretty much hoard lip balm. My lips dry out and crack pretty easily, and are always in need of moisture. This lip treatment:

  • Protects the lips from harsh environmental conditionsBibimbap
  • Moisturizes and heals dry, chapped, peeling skin
  • Diminishes fine lines around the lip area

The formula: Smooth, not sticky, not waxy. It coats lips and stays on for a long time without feeling heavy. Soft, plump, moisturized lips are the result! The texture really is luxurious and wonderful. It’s a pretty expensive lip balm ($26), but I like it much better than the Fresh Sugar Advanced Therapy Lip Treatment that’s the same price.

The scent: I like my lip balms minty. Other flavors/scents have a tendency to get cloying after a small amount of time, plus I love the tingly fresh sensation of mint. I was excited to see that Bibimbap’s lip treatment had peppermint oil in it, but unfortunately it mostly smells of lemon – though it does have a slight tingle. Though it’s not my favorite in terms of flavor, the formula is by far one of my favorites.

The packaging: Classic twist-up tube. Doesn’t feel cheap or like the twisty-thing will break. Simple and sleek.

You can feel the love and care that was put into formulating these products, and their effectiveness makes them worth their higher price tags. Small-batch crafted products are so special in a world of mass-produced items. The products have a story and a reason for being formulated the way they are. I’d definitely give Bibimbap Skincare a try – you won’t be disappointed!
