If you don’t know The Fit Equestrian, you should! Founded by Lauren Mahr, a NASM certified personal trainer, TFE helps provide exercise and nutrition guidance specifically geared towards equestrian athletes. I’ve been a fan and follower of The Fit Equestrian for a while now – I’ve done the original core strength program and LOVE their adorable …is my cardio stickers and Trust Me, It’s a Sport Tees. When they came out with a lower leg strength program, I had to try it. Both fitness programs are super affordable at $12 each.
A strong lower leg (and leg in general) is so important in riding, and I’m always looking for ways to better myself. The program consists of beginner-friendly exercises that you can do at home – I do them in the evening when I’m watching TV with my husband. I wasn’t able to do one of the exercises due to the bone spurs in my ankle (oh, the perks of riding) but the others were enough to really help me. Over the past month I feel like I’ve gained better control and stability of my lower leg, and my over-fences position has gotten stronger.
Check out the videos from yesterday’s lesson below! I feel a lot more confident and secure. I’ve incorporated these exercises into my daily routine, and as they get easier, I’ve just been moving up to higher resistance bands. I think every equestrian can benefit from TFE’s Lower Leg Strength Program, and at $12, it’s beyond worth the guidance!
